You may have some misconceptions about senior living, but let’s look at the reality of senior living communities today and the benefits they provide. Maybe we can ‘squash’ your misconceptions.

Senior living communities aren’t what they use to be. They range from high luxury resorts to the homelike feel of the house you spent many years in. When asked, most seniors say they prefer living in a senior community than being home alone. Here are some reasons why:

1. No Housework or Yardwork Stress.

You can put the worries of owning a home behind you. Worrying about how the lawn will be mowed, the dust you have that’s out of reach without a ladder, the laundry down stairs, or scooping the snow become things in the past. These worrisome activities are taken care of when you move to senior living.  Removing this worry allows you to focus on the people and things you love while being able to sleep peacefully at night.

2. Safety.

No longer do you need to wonder what will happen if you have an unexpected fall, or illness hits you unexpectedly. In senior communities, you can rest your mind knowing help is ‘one push of a button’ away with the emergency system provided and trained staff who are available 24 hours of the day.

3. A Sense of Belonging.

We are humans created for relationships with others. As we age, isolation becomes common amongst seniors. We may also be home bound due to physical ailments that don’t let us get out like we use to.  With many activities available daily such as entertainment, music, day trips, cards, etc., loneliness relinquishes. You also have the option of enjoying your own solitude in your apartment, if that’s what you chose.

4. Improved Nutrition.

The efforts for grocery shopping and cooking become tiresome and difficult as we age which leads to a lack in proper nutrition among seniors. Many seniors report not eating right when living alone, but when moving to senior living, we have the options of three hot delicious meals prepared for you daily.  Many seniors report having improvements in their health due to getting three balanced meals per day.

5. Transportation.

Our reaction times decline as we age which can make driving stressful for seniors.  For this reason, most residents take advantage of the free transportation senior communities provide. They can provide transportation to doctors’ appointments, groceries, hair appointments, and errands around town. There’s no reason to stress yourself out when you have this community benefit available.

Senior living provides many benefits for those feeling hopeless in their current situation. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it may be a good idea to check into senior living places around your area and see if it’s for you.
